Road at Lough Atalia Bridge to reopen this weekend

The works on the Lough Atalia Bridge will come to an end on Friday night and, barring unforseen circumstances, the road at the bridge will be open by Saturday morning. However the one-way system which is operating inbound along Lough Atalia Road and outbound at College Rd will remain in place for the next three weeks to trial how it will operate after the road reopens.

After a prolonged saga, a replica of the original statue of Pádraic Ó' Conaire is to return to Eyre Square following an eleven year absence. The original statue of the famed Irish literary giant dominated the top of the Square since it was unveiled by Eamon de Valera in 1935. City council traffic wardens hand out an average of forty parking fines per day

The Galway City Council collected more than half a million euro in revenue from parking fines last year. Figures released by the local authority show that 14,683 parking tickets were issued by traffic wardens around the city in 2014. That equates to an average of just over 40 tickets per day.
